The Kentucky State Poetry Society (KSPS) was founded in 1966 by a group of Kentuckians with a love for poetry. Among this group was Jesse Stuart, Kentucky Poet Laureate, who continued to support KSPS until his death in 1984.
As a member of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, KSPS is committed to the support of many programs, including the acknowledgement of the accomplishments of various state members and opportunities for recognition in poetry--most importantly, perhaps, to student writers. KSPS is committed to supporting the writers of America's future and joins NFSPS in that goal. For more information about NFSPS, click here for the current issue of Strophes, the national society's official newsletter.
KSPS supports poetry locally and regionally through its adult and student poetry contests, the publication of its poetry journal Pegasus, and through activities which promote poetry throughout the Commonwealth. Click here for the current KSPS e-newsletter.
Membership in the Society is not limited to Kentuckians! Our members come from all over the US, Canada, and beyond, and have many vocations and lifestyles. Several KSPS members have published poetry in some of the nation's finest publications and have books to their credit. Other members have yet to be published--it matters not to us. Our common bond is an appreciation for poetry. If you share this interest, you are invited to join us.
The leadership team of KSPS consists of volunteer officers, committee chairs, and directors who have been elected by the KSPS membership or appointed by the current president.
